Sex is something that must be enjoyed responsibly because there are dire consequences for being reckless. Some view it as sin yet some treat it as a sport and yet others abuse it like a druggo abuses drugs. It's a powerful urge and not inherently bad. It does need to be controlled though, just as the urge to eat chocolate mudcake every day and wash it down with chardonnay must be controlled or you get fat! Like every good thing, sex has a place and must be respected. Religions regulate it because sex takes energy and emotion away from them. If you're happy and content inside, why would you get excited about mass or a district convention or a tiring trip to mecca?

Sex really that bad?
by Batman89 ini was just thinking randomly.
why/how are sexual desires really that much of a sin??.
sexual energy is one of the highest forms of energies known, why would god put this strong desire in us only to have us repress it through his"word the bible"??.

Is Modern Marriage Unscriptual?
by wearewatchingyouman inso as far as we know jesus was never married.
i've often wondered why this was.
was it because of a personal belief?

Marriage was so often a way to align two families and produce heirs to royal lineages and that. In poor classes it didn't matter so much so marriage could be for love. These days marriage is about publicly pledging your love and having civil rights. People here tend to live together and maybe even have kids, and then get married later on. Those relationships have the same legal recognition unless you're gay, which is why gay Australians want legal marriage options.

Which of the SEVEN stages of post JW behavior are you in right now?
by Terry in1. they done me wrong.
2. i'm depressed.
3. i'm gonna act like an apostate (smoke, drink, drugs, sex, outrageous behavior).

I skipped the crazy sex n drugs stage and will grumble about what idiots they are but mostly I'm in activism in that I will tell people I meet what jws are really like. I did rebel a little by celebrating birthdays and Christmas and drinking a lot!!
Interestingly, for me an many others, leaving the cult had the same stages as bereavement or breakup:
Denial of ttatt
Bargaining (if only, maybe I can stay for social life)
Anger (at their crappy teachings n the wrong they've done you )
Grief (missing the good things about the jw life, friends who now shun you)
Depression (guilt over being silly enough to join, the realisation of how much of your life you can't get back, feeling futile over loved ones still trapped)
Acceptance of the past
Moving on from it and getting on with life: rebuilding.
There's also the aspect of having to renegotiate your beliefs, beliefs you've had no say in formulating that you now have to sit down and work out for yourself, such as, what do I think about homosexuality? What do I think about Harry potter?

The Apostasy Within
by Ultimate Axiom inin the latest watchtower (july 15, 2014, page 14, paragraph 10) it says; today, jehovahs people are not often confronted with apostasy within the congregation.
still, when exposed to unscriptural teachings, regardless of the source, we must decisively reject them.. so, not often, but occasionally jws are exposed to apostasy within the congregation, and they are instructed to decisively reject it.
as we all know, the vast majority of the apostasy they are exposed to comes from the governing body.. i am meeting up soon with an old friend from the 1970s who i havent seen for decades, who is still an active jw, and who would really like to hear what i think about things.

Also, if blood fraction is ok, does that mean fractions of the other things in that scripture ok? What fractions of fornication and idolatry are ok?
I reckon if you put these contradictions to your friend as questions you will have a better chance of reaching him: The bible says x, so why does the wt teach y and z?

Is the Centenary Campaign in August 2014 really for the public?
by truthseeker ini was thinking about what i read in a recent kingdom ministry about the historical campaign the jws will engage in this august.. this is not really for the public.. it is to keep the jw's busy, not thinking about why 100 years has gone by with no end in sight, but to buoy up flagging enthusiasm.. they trying to make jws maintain a constant state of tension and expectation..

It's a cold month here in Australia and the kids are at school. At least the kids won't be dragged around on their school holidays.

Run away from the jws with your lady and make your own life. That's the best. It will take some time to clear your head but it's worth it. That organization will just chew you up and spit you out otherwise.

Anyone going to the memorial this year?
by Pyramid God ini was invited by my parents, and even though i have nothing but contempt for this religion, things have been good in our relationship so i was considering going just to appease them.
anyone else?.

Hell no. I had an emotional breakdown at last year's one, my last meeting ever with jws and the end of my rapid fade. Not gonna pit myself in a situation so full of crap it makes me cry!!

Shunning now applies to non-jw relatives of apostates...
by Julia Orwell inapparently.
my never-a-jw mother was at the shops with my never-a-jw 5 year old niece today and saw some jws she's known loosely for years as they were friends of mine.
she'd even taught the teenaged girl among them.

It's amazing how much these people don't think. I shunned with the rest of them as a jw, but not to the point of ignoring someone. I'd make eye contact or say hi where I could. Isn't that a better way to win someone over?
